LOCATION
National Medical College is situated at the South-eastern Sub-metropolitan city of Birgunj, the commercial Capital of Nepal, along the Indo-Nepal border. The college campus is only 3 kms away from the Indian border town of Raxaul (in Bihar State) which is well connected with most major cities and towns of India by road and railway. Birgunj has good road linkage with most cities and towns of Nepal. It is a matter of just 15 minutes flight to Kathmandu, the national capital.
The entire establishment of National Medical College, viz, Pre-clinical and clinical departments, Teaching hospital, School of Nursing, Students hostels, Quarters for faculties and other staff, Library, etc., all are located within one single campus spread over a fairly large track of about 40 acres of land. This is the unique advantage of this college as compared to many other Medical College in Nepal, which facilitates the teaching staff and students for better understanding with each other & work together for a better academic environment.
The National Medical College Campus is located at the outskirt of Birgunj city in a peaceful and pollution free environment. There is round o’clock local transport facilities available between the college campus and the markets and other utility places in the city.
Birgunj is a multi-cultural and multi-lingual city where Hindus, Muslims, Buddhists and other ethnic communities live together in peace and harmony. The commonly spoken languages include Nepali, Bhojpuri, Hindi, Urdu, English, Newari and some other local dialects.
As far as climate is concerned, Birgunj experiences temperature ranging from 8oc (the lowest in winter) and 39oc .

M.B.B.S. (Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery)

The Curriculum Development and Monitoring Committee of National Medical College has drawn the detail program outline for the MBBS course in strict adherence to the curriculum of Tribhuban University and the requirements of Nepal Medical Council.  The Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery program runs over a total period of five and a half years (four and a half years followed by a compulsory rotating internship of one year). Integrated teaching, problem-based and community oriented and community based learning are the key features of the core curriculum for the MBBS program.
Phase – I : First year:
i) Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Bio-chemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology)
ii) Community Medicine.
iii) Clinical orientation (History taking/Communication skill)
Second year:
i) Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (Anatomy, Physiology, Bio-chemistry, Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology).
ii) Clinical Orientation (clinical examination skills)
Phase – II : Third year:
i) Community Medicine (Applied Epidemiology, Family Health Exercise)
ii) Forensic Medicine.
iii) Clinical Disciplines: Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Gynecology/ Obstetrics
iv) Clinical trainging at Teaching Hospital.
Phase – III : Fourth year:

Internship:
A student after passing the final MBBS Examination has to undertake compulsory rotating internship of one year (at the Teaching Hospital of this medical college) for which he/she must get registered provisionally with Nepal Medical Council. On completion of internship he/she will be given full registration by Medical Council as per its rule and regulation for practicing allopathic system of medicine.
POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL PROGRAMME (M.D./M.S.)|

The course outline for the Postgraduate programs in various subjects is strictly based on the curriculum of Tribhuban University. NURSING PROGRAMS
|National Medical College runs various nursing programs at the Nursing Campus located in the main campus. The nursing campus has a multistoried academic building and a separate library building. The academic building houses rooms for the faculty members, offices and lecture theatres.

Affiliation / Recognition
National Medical College is affiliated with the internationally renowned Tribhuban University, Kathmandu, Nepal. The college has been accorded permanent recognition by the Nepal Medical Council. For it’s total adherence to international standards set for the undergraduate and postgraduate level Medical Education by the World Federation for Medical Education, the World Health Organization (WHO) has listed this college in it’s World Directory of Medical Schools. National Medical Collegehas received the ISO Certificate for the world class Medical Education and health service management.
The Medical and allied Health Science courses offered at this college based on the Curriculum of Tribhuban University are in line with the accreditation standards set by the Medical Councils of India. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Great Britain and many other Asian and European Countries.
Facilities & Features
Infrastructure and facilities, in adequate quantity and of high quality, is key factors for a Medical College to attain and sustain Excellency in Medical Education and Health Services. National Medical College has the world class physical infrastructure and manpower, equipments of most advance and sophisticate technology. The college gives utmost priority to develop and have proper management of all necessary facilities for academic, extra-curricular and recreational activities of the students.
TEACHING HOSPITAL
The physical infrastructure of the 1050 bedded Teaching Hospital of National Medical College has been designed and built to suite the international standards with all the essential and desirable facilities. The hospital complex houses many multi-storied buildings that accommodate the OPDs and wards of the clinical departments, Emergency department, Operation Theatres, Central Laboratory, Blood Bank, Pharmacies, and Canteen etc. Fully furnished residential accommodation has been provided to all the Medical Doctors, Nursing and other Para-Medical staff in close vicinity of the hospital. Round the clock Ambulance, Pharmacy, Blood Bank services are available within the hospital complex. The OPDs of the various departments together have a capacity to treat about 1000 patients daily. The average daily OPD attendance is between 600 to 700. The average Bed Occupancy in the wards remain around 75 percent throughout the year.
IBMS BLOCKS
The Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) Block houses the Pre-Clinical departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Microbiology in addition to the departments of Community Medicine and Forensic Medicine. Each of these departments has fully equipped laboratory, museum, departmental library, Seminar/ Tutorial rooms and adequate rooms for faculty and staff. Given the highly integrated and community oriented curriculum of the Medical and Nursing Courses, this is a major advantage of having all the Basic Medical Science departments and the Community Medicine departments located in a single block.
LECTURE THEATER COMPLEX
Altogether there are eight lecture theatres organized in two blocks (each having four theatres). Each of these well ventilated lecture theatres are vary spacious, fully air-conditioned and equipped with all modern audio-visual equipments. The capacity of the individual theatres varies between 200 to 250 seats.
CENTRAL LIBRARY
The Central Library is housed in a separate huge and beautiful double storied building located at the center of the college campus. It has been acknowledged as one of the best libraries in Nepal.
The central library can accommodate about 250 readers at a time. Separate reading space have been provided to the faculty members, Postgraduate students/interns and the undergraduate students. Seating comfortableness, ventilation and lighting have been well taken care of. There is adequate provision for drinking water and toilet facility in each floor. The Central library has a very rich collection of more than 12 thousand volumes of Text/Reference books (of many titles in each subject).It regularly subscribes more than 75 National/International Medical Journals covering all the Clinical, Para-Clinical and Pre-Clinical subjects in addition to a long list of WHO periodicals/reports.
The library offers internet/e-mail and photocopy services to its readers. There is the Audiovisual sections for self learning by students through the use of videos, slides and CD-ROMs. The members can borrow books under home issue system as per the rules of the library. Strict adherence to code of conduct inside the library is a must for all categories of readers.
NURSING STUDENT HOSTEL
The hostel for the Nursing students has a capacity to accommodate 300 students in well furnished double seated rooms. There are good facilities for indoor/outdoor games and other recreational activities of the students. The hostel mess provides very hygienic and nutritious vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food at a very reasonable rate.
Admission Procedure
• Academic Session:
The academic session for the MBBS programme commences from the 17th of November every year.
• Application process:
a) For foreign applicants: Application from eligible Indian & other foreign students for admission in MBBS course is invited every academic year which remains open upto 31st October. Applicants are advised to submit their dully completed Application form with necessary supporting documents (photocopy) as early as possible. Applications received on or before 31st October is considered on a first come first serve basis and applications received after this date is considered in accordance with the availability of seats. All foreign students must have to pass the entrance examination conducted by the examination department of this medical college. 

b) For Nepalese Nationals: Application for admission in MBBS course is invited eligible Nepali students who have passed the undergraduate medical entrance examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine. Applicants are advised to submit their dully completed Application form with necessary supporting documents (photocopy) as early as possible.
Each applicant is considered on an individual basis and finalization of admission is determined by the concerned authority of National Medical College.
Prospectus and Application form can be obtained directly from the Department of Admission, National Medical College or its India and abroad offices on payment of NRs. 1,600.00 or equivalent in cash or A/c payee Bank Draft drawn in favour of National Medical College, Birgunj, Nepal (Payable at Kathmandu/Kolkata)
Deserving candidates can register their name in advance for MBBS course by paying NRs. Five lacs or equivalent upto 30th September. The registered Indian and other foreign candidates must complete the necessary admission procedure by 15th October, failing which their advance registration money shall be forfeited. The registered Nepalese candidates must complete the necessary admission procedure within one week from the date of publication of the undergraduate medical entrance examination result conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, failing which their advance registration money shall be forfeited. Candidates found unqualified by the college shall get their advance registration money back. No claim of advance registration money shall be entertained after the deadline for admission.Supporting Documents:
Applicants applying for MBBS course must submit all the following supporting documents along with the completed application form. The original certificates/documents will have to be submitted at the time of admission.
a. Attested copy of Mark-sheet of S.L.C. or Matriculation or an equivalent examination.
b. Attested copy of Mark-sheet of Intermediates of Science, 10+2 system or an equivalent examination.
c. Attested copy of Provisional Certificate of S.L.C., I.Sc., or 10+2 system or an equivalent examination.
d. Attested copy of character or conduct certificate.
e. Attested copy of Migration Certificate.
f. Attested copy of transfer certificate from the academic institution or 10+2 school last attended.
g. Attested copy of Citizenship or Resident certificate or Passport.
h. Three copies of passport size photograph.
i. Attested copy of Birth Certificate.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION IN MBBS PROGRAMME:

• Age:
A candidate who has already completed 17 years of age as on 15th November is eligible to apply for admission in MBBS programme.
• Entrance Examination:
a. Regarding Nepalese students (other than the Nominees of Govt. of Nepal), selection of applicants is done from among those who have passed the Undergraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by Tribhuban University, Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu.
b. Nominees of Govt. of Nepal under the free scholarship quota are selected through the entrance examination conducted by the Ministry of Education.
c. The college conducts its own entrance examination & interview for Indian and other foreign students.
• Academic Qualification:
An applicant with 10+2 years of education or Intermediate of Science or an equivalent course of study with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as Principal subjects with 50% or more marks in aggregate is eligible to apply for MBBS course.

• Physical/Mental Fitness:

Students who have been selected for admission to the College undergo a Physical and Mental Fitness Examination which is conducted by the Medical Board of the college. If physical disability, mental behavioral change or chronic infectious ailment is found in a student, such a student is advised needed plan of treatment or may be declared unfit for admission in cases of color blindness, mental disorder & gross physical disability.
• Student Visa:
Foreign candidates other than Indian Nationals will require study visa. The college will help in obtaining study visa after the student is granted admission to this Institution, which will have to be renewed in every two years.
(II) FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME:

Academic Session:
The academic session for the postgraduate Medical Courses (MD/MS) commences from 1st of May of every year.
Duration of Postgraduate Programs:
The total duration of the residential Postgraduate programs in the pre-clinical & clinical subjects is of three years.

For Nepalese candidates, they have to clear the Postgraduate entrance examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu. 
Each applicant is considered on an individual basis and finalization of admission is determined by the concerned authority of this Medical College.
Prospectus and Application form can be obtained directly from the Department of Admission of this Medical College or its India and abroad offices on payment of IRs. 3000.00 (US $ 80 for foreign students other than Indians) in cash or A/c payee Bank Draft drawn in favour of National Medical College, Birgunj, Nepal (Payable at Kathmandu/Kolkata)
Deserving Indian and other foreign candidates can register their name in advance for Postgraduate programme by paying IRs. Three lacs (or US $ 7,800.00). The registered candidates must complete the admission procedure by 10th April. Candidates found unqualified by the college shall get their advance registration money back. There is no age limit for admission in Postgraduate Medical Courses in any subject.

a. Regarding Nepalese Nationals, selection of applicants is done from among those who have passed the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted byTribhuban University, Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu
b. The college conducts its own entrance examination & interview for Indian and other foreign students.

- MBBS or equivalent degree with one year internship from a recognized University.
- For Nepalese Nationals: Registration with Nepal Medical Council and passing of the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, Nepal.
- For Indian and other foreign Nationals: Registration with Medical Council of their respective country and passing of the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by National Medical College.

Internship:
A student after passing the final MBBS Examination has to undertake compulsory rotating internship of one year (at the Teaching Hospital of this medical college) for which he/she must get registered provisionally with Nepal Medical Council. On completion of internship he/she will be given full registration by Medical Council as per its rule and regulation for practicing allopathic system of medicine.
POSTGRADUATE MEDICAL PROGRAMME (M.D./M.S.)|
The National Medical College offers Postgraduate Medical Courses (M.D./M.S.) in almost all the clinical and pre-clinical subjects. The course outline for the Postgraduate programs in various subjects is strictly based on the curriculum of Tribhuban University. Our Postgraduate degrees have wide recognition and acceptance which are highly valued for employment in medical institutions across the globe.
NURSING PROGRAMS
|National Medical College runs various nursing programs at the Nursing Campus located in the main campus. The nursing campus has a multistoried academic building and a separate library building. The academic building houses rooms for the faculty members, offices and lecture theatres.
The curriculum, commencement of academic session, duration of course, eligibility criteria for admission and examination schedule for the various nursing programs are as follows:
Affiliation / Recognition
National Medical College is affiliated with the internationally renowned Tribhuban University, Kathmandu, Nepal. The college has been accorded permanent recognition by the Nepal Medical Council. For it’s total adherence to international standards set for the undergraduate and postgraduate level Medical Education by the World Federation for Medical Education, the World Health Organization (WHO) has listed this college in it’s World Directory of Medical Schools. National Medical Collegehas received the ISO Certificate for the world class Medical Education and health service management.
The Medical and allied Health Science courses offered at this college based on the Curriculum of Tribhuban University are in line with the accreditation standards set by the Medical Councils of India. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Great Britain and many other Asian and European Countries.
Facilities & Features
Infrastructure and facilities, in adequate quantity and of high quality, is key factors for a Medical College to attain and sustain Excellency in Medical Education and Health Services. National Medical College has the world class physical infrastructure and manpower, equipments of most advance and sophisticate technology. The college gives utmost priority to develop and have proper management of all necessary facilities for academic, extra-curricular and recreational activities of the students.
TEACHING HOSPITAL
The physical infrastructure of the 1050 bedded Teaching Hospital of National Medical College has been designed and built to suite the international standards with all the essential and desirable facilities. The hospital complex houses many multi-storied buildings that accommodate the OPDs and wards of the clinical departments, Emergency department, Operation Theatres, Central Laboratory, Blood Bank, Pharmacies, and Canteen etc. Fully furnished residential accommodation has been provided to all the Medical Doctors, Nursing and other Para-Medical staff in close vicinity of the hospital. Round the clock Ambulance, Pharmacy, Blood Bank services are available within the hospital complex. The OPDs of the various departments together have a capacity to treat about 1000 patients daily. The average daily OPD attendance is between 600 to 700. The average Bed Occupancy in the wards remain around 75 percent throughout the year.
IBMS BLOCKS
The Integrated Basic Medical Sciences (IBMS) Block houses the Pre-Clinical departments of Anatomy, Physiology, Pathology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology and Microbiology in addition to the departments of Community Medicine and Forensic Medicine. Each of these departments has fully equipped laboratory, museum, departmental library, Seminar/ Tutorial rooms and adequate rooms for faculty and staff. Given the highly integrated and community oriented curriculum of the Medical and Nursing Courses, this is a major advantage of having all the Basic Medical Science departments and the Community Medicine departments located in a single block.
LECTURE THEATER COMPLEX
Altogether there are eight lecture theatres organized in two blocks (each having four theatres). Each of these well ventilated lecture theatres are vary spacious, fully air-conditioned and equipped with all modern audio-visual equipments. The capacity of the individual theatres varies between 200 to 250 seats.
CENTRAL LIBRARY
The Central Library is housed in a separate huge and beautiful double storied building located at the center of the college campus. It has been acknowledged as one of the best libraries in Nepal.
The central library can accommodate about 250 readers at a time. Separate reading space have been provided to the faculty members, Postgraduate students/interns and the undergraduate students. Seating comfortableness, ventilation and lighting have been well taken care of. There is adequate provision for drinking water and toilet facility in each floor. The Central library has a very rich collection of more than 12 thousand volumes of Text/Reference books (of many titles in each subject).It regularly subscribes more than 75 National/International Medical Journals covering all the Clinical, Para-Clinical and Pre-Clinical subjects in addition to a long list of WHO periodicals/reports.
The library offers internet/e-mail and photocopy services to its readers. There is the Audiovisual sections for self learning by students through the use of videos, slides and CD-ROMs. The members can borrow books under home issue system as per the rules of the library. Strict adherence to code of conduct inside the library is a must for all categories of readers.
NURSING STUDENT HOSTEL
The hostel for the Nursing students has a capacity to accommodate 300 students in well furnished double seated rooms. There are good facilities for indoor/outdoor games and other recreational activities of the students. The hostel mess provides very hygienic and nutritious vegetarian as well as non-vegetarian food at a very reasonable rate.
Admission Procedure
• Academic Session:
The academic session for the MBBS programme commences from the 17th of November every year.
• Application process:
a) For foreign applicants: Application from eligible Indian & other foreign students for admission in MBBS course is invited every academic year which remains open upto 31st October. Applicants are advised to submit their dully completed Application form with necessary supporting documents (photocopy) as early as possible. Applications received on or before 31st October is considered on a first come first serve basis and applications received after this date is considered in accordance with the availability of seats. All foreign students must have to pass the entrance examination conducted by the examination department of this medical college. 

b) For Nepalese Nationals: Application for admission in MBBS course is invited eligible Nepali students who have passed the undergraduate medical entrance examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine. Applicants are advised to submit their dully completed Application form with necessary supporting documents (photocopy) as early as possible.
Each applicant is considered on an individual basis and finalization of admission is determined by the concerned authority of National Medical College.
Prospectus and Application form can be obtained directly from the Department of Admission, National Medical College or its India and abroad offices on payment of NRs. 1,600.00 or equivalent in cash or A/c payee Bank Draft drawn in favour of National Medical College, Birgunj, Nepal (Payable at Kathmandu/Kolkata)
Deserving candidates can register their name in advance for MBBS course by paying NRs. Five lacs or equivalent upto 30th September. The registered Indian and other foreign candidates must complete the necessary admission procedure by 15th October, failing which their advance registration money shall be forfeited. The registered Nepalese candidates must complete the necessary admission procedure within one week from the date of publication of the undergraduate medical entrance examination result conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, failing which their advance registration money shall be forfeited. Candidates found unqualified by the college shall get their advance registration money back. No claim of advance registration money shall be entertained after the deadline for admission.Supporting Documents:
Applicants applying for MBBS course must submit all the following supporting documents along with the completed application form. The original certificates/documents will have to be submitted at the time of admission.
a. Attested copy of Mark-sheet of S.L.C. or Matriculation or an equivalent examination.
b. Attested copy of Mark-sheet of Intermediates of Science, 10+2 system or an equivalent examination.
c. Attested copy of Provisional Certificate of S.L.C., I.Sc., or 10+2 system or an equivalent examination.
d. Attested copy of character or conduct certificate.
e. Attested copy of Migration Certificate.
f. Attested copy of transfer certificate from the academic institution or 10+2 school last attended.
g. Attested copy of Citizenship or Resident certificate or Passport.
h. Three copies of passport size photograph.
i. Attested copy of Birth Certificate.
ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION IN MBBS PROGRAMME:

• Age:
A candidate who has already completed 17 years of age as on 15th November is eligible to apply for admission in MBBS programme.
• Entrance Examination:
a. Regarding Nepalese students (other than the Nominees of Govt. of Nepal), selection of applicants is done from among those who have passed the Undergraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by Tribhuban University, Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu.
b. Nominees of Govt. of Nepal under the free scholarship quota are selected through the entrance examination conducted by the Ministry of Education.
c. The college conducts its own entrance examination & interview for Indian and other foreign students.
• Academic Qualification:
An applicant with 10+2 years of education or Intermediate of Science or an equivalent course of study with English, Biology, Physics and Chemistry as Principal subjects with 50% or more marks in aggregate is eligible to apply for MBBS course.

• Physical/Mental Fitness:

Students who have been selected for admission to the College undergo a Physical and Mental Fitness Examination which is conducted by the Medical Board of the college. If physical disability, mental behavioral change or chronic infectious ailment is found in a student, such a student is advised needed plan of treatment or may be declared unfit for admission in cases of color blindness, mental disorder & gross physical disability.
• Student Visa:
Foreign candidates other than Indian Nationals will require study visa. The college will help in obtaining study visa after the student is granted admission to this Institution, which will have to be renewed in every two years.
(II) FOR POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME:

Academic Session:
The academic session for the postgraduate Medical Courses (MD/MS) commences from 1st of May of every year.
Duration of Postgraduate Programs:
The total duration of the residential Postgraduate programs in the pre-clinical & clinical subjects is of three years.
Application Process:
Application from eligible students for admission in Postgraduate programme is invited every academic year which remains open upto 15th of April for foreign candidates. Applicants are advised to submit their dully completed application form with necessary supporting documents as early as possible. Applications received on or before 15th of April is considered on a first come first serve basis and applications received after this date is considered in accordance with the availability of seats for foreign nationals. For Nepalese candidates, they have to clear the Postgraduate entrance examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu. 
Each applicant is considered on an individual basis and finalization of admission is determined by the concerned authority of this Medical College.
Prospectus and Application form can be obtained directly from the Department of Admission of this Medical College or its India and abroad offices on payment of IRs. 3000.00 (US $ 80 for foreign students other than Indians) in cash or A/c payee Bank Draft drawn in favour of National Medical College, Birgunj, Nepal (Payable at Kathmandu/Kolkata)
Deserving Indian and other foreign candidates can register their name in advance for Postgraduate programme by paying IRs. Three lacs (or US $ 7,800.00). The registered candidates must complete the admission procedure by 10th April. Candidates found unqualified by the college shall get their advance registration money back. In case of qualified registered candidates not completing the admission procedure by 10th April, their advance registration money shall be forfeited. No claim of advance registration money shall be entertained after 10th April.

ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION IN POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMME:
• Age:
There is no age limit for admission in Postgraduate Medical Courses in any subject.
• Entrance Examination:
a. Regarding Nepalese Nationals, selection of applicants is done from among those who have passed the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted byTribhuban University, Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu
b. The college conducts its own entrance examination & interview for Indian and other foreign students.
• Academic Qualification:
- MBBS or equivalent degree with one year internship from a recognized University.
- For Nepalese Nationals: Registration with Nepal Medical Council and passing of the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by Tribhuban University Institute of Medicine, Kathmandu, Nepal.
- For Indian and other foreign Nationals: Registration with Medical Council of their respective country and passing of the Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination conducted by National Medical College. 
• Physical/Mental Fitness:
Students who have been selected for admission to the Postgraduate programme at this college have to undergo Physical and Mental Fitness Examination which is conducted by the Medical Board of the college.
