Direct Admission in MBBS 2021-22: (NEET-UG Qualified Students)

Students must qualify for the NEET exam for MBBS Direct Admission under NRI & Management Quota Seats.

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Exam is the qualifying exam to facilitate the allotments of seats in Medical Colleges of India.

An Entrance examination is the most preferred way for MBBS Admission in India.

NEET examination gives equal opportunities to all medical students.

The NEET exam score is utilised for admission in medical, dental & Ayush courses.

Even for study MBBS Abroad program, qualifying NEET is mandatory.

This in-depth blog post will help you learn about the basic steps for admission to medical colleges.

In this step by step guide, You will learn about:

# Medical Admission in India
# National Eligibility Cum Entrance Exam
# Medical Colleges & Universities
# NRI & Management Quota Seats

The National Medical Commission regulates medical education in India.

NMC authorized medical colleges for conducting of Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery course.

The MBBS course is for biology students that offers excellent opportunities in the health care sector.

Doctors are considered next to god because of their ability to cure diseases & heal the patients.

However, getting admission to medical schools is getting difficult due to the increase in competition.

We understand the problems faced by the students due to the lack of an adequate number of medical colleges.

Private Medical colleges bridge this gap by favoring local & international students to secure a seat in medical colleges.

NRI & Management quota seats help facilitate admission in medical colleges via NEET entrance exam score.

The MBBS Admission process followed by NEET exam brings more transparency and gives more flexibility to medical students.

NEET Qualified students can participate in counseling at state levels and all Indian levels.

Students with a low score in the NEET can apply for MBBS direct admission during the counselling.

Most of the MBBS seats are added by newly opened private medical colleges.

Also, the government has taken an initiative to start many me by 2025.

In the last 2 years, 7 new All India Institute of Medical Sciences has been started.

And 8 more new AlIMS colleges are under development.

There is a high demand for doctors in India.

Currently, the 1.3 billion population of India is served by 1.8 million registered medical graduates.

Therefore India has a ratio of 1.34 doctors for 1000 citizens.

Also, India has achieved the World Health Organization’s recommended doctor population ratio.

But still, in many other countries, the ratio of doctors to citizens is nearly 2:1000 or 3:1000.

To improve the healthcare industry, we have to double the number of doctors in India.

MBBS course in India is offered by the following institutions:

(A) Government Medical Colleges including AIIMS & JIPMER.

(B) Private & Deemed Medical Universities

Direct Admission in MBBS

The MBBS tuition fee is in government colleges is less than in private colleges & universities.

But the level of competition for MBBS admission in government colleges is quite high.

Also, medical seats in government colleges are reserved under various policies for:

(A) SC/ST & OBC category students.

(B) Economically weaker sections

(C) State domicile students.

Either you have to score good marks in the NEET UG exam or You must be capable of paying the higher tuition fee.

The Minimum cost for MBBS management quota seats is around 50 – 60 lakhs.

Even with the low NEET rank, You can study MBBS through NRI & Management quota seats.

NRI & Management seats are available in private & deemed colleges.

Students options for such seats have to pay a higher tuition fee compare to students joining via merit.

Qualifying NEET exam is easier but scoring 550+ marks in NEET is nearly impossible for students.

Many students appear & qualify NEET for admission under NRI & Management quota seats.

MBBS Admission through Management Quota

To get direct admission in MBBS you must have to follow the below process:

Step #1 Apply for the NEET UG Entrance exam:

(A) NEET exam is compulsory for MBBS admission through NRI or management quota.

(B) You must register for the NEET UG exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA)

(C) NRI, PIO, OCI & Foreign national students have to participate in the NEET exam.

Step #2 Qualify the NEET UG entrance exam:

(A) Just appearing for the NEET exam, won’t make you eligible for MBBS admission.

(B) You also have to pass the exam by scoring more than 50% of the cut-off score.

* The NEET Cut-off score varies between 115 – 135 out of 720 marks.

Therefore you must score more than the expected cut-off score for MBBS NRI or Management quota admission.

Step #3 Register for the counselling:

(A) Counselling is mandatory for the allotment of MBBS seats in India.

(B) You must have to register for the counselling even for NRI or Management seats.

(C) Apply for online medical counselling.

Medical Counselling Committee and State medical authorities conduct counselling for Private medical colleges .

Step #4 College Choice filling:

Counseling is done for allotment of seats as per the NEET All India Rank.

You have to fill the college choices and the respective authorities will allot the seats.

The seat allotted is based on the outcome of choices filled and NEET UG rank.

Therefore you must be very careful while choosing the college options.

You must choose NRI or Management seat options if your NEET rank is low.

Step #5 Download the allotment letter:

Counseling results are announced after the college choice filling is over.

If you have given the options as per your rank, you might get a seat.

You can download the provisional allotment letter provided by the counseling authorities.

Step #6 Reporting to the allotted medical college:

You must have to report to the respective medical colleges where you have been allotted a seat.

At the time of reporting, you must have to pay the college fee and submit the essential documents to confirm your seat.

10-15 days is provided by the counseling authorities to report to the respective colleges.

If you fail to report to the colleges, your allotted seat will be canceled.

MBBS Admission Process

NRI & management quota MBBS seats can be joined through NEET rank based counseling.

3 rounds of counseling are conducted for NRI & Management seats allotment on the basis of NEET rank.

✅ Round-1 Seat allotment
✅ Round-2 seat allotment
✅ Mop Up Round

Even if you don’t get a seat in the 1st round, you can change the college options in the subsequent rounds.

Also, you can upgrade your seat allotted by following the seat-up-gradation process.

The previously allotted seat will be canceled if you get an upgraded seat in the 2nd round or mop-up round.

You are allowed to upgrade to a better college, even if you accept the seat allotted in the 1st round.

Private Medical Colleges in India without Donation

Most of the private medical colleges offer MBBS seats in a low-budget package.

Low budget MBBS seats in the self-financing medical colleges are available under categories such:

✅ Govt. quota seats for state domicile students.
✅ Private quota seats for all students.
✅ Management quota seats.

Seats in self-financing Private medical colleges are offered at a very low budget package.

Only NRI seats in private medical colleges have higher tuition fees.

But there are some exceptions too.

Such as MBBS management quota seats in Karnataka Private medical colleges are 30 – 40 Lakh per annum.

However private quota seats in Karnataka Medical colleges have 8 – 9 Lakh per annum fee.

You have to register for state quota seats counseling for admission in private medical colleges.

The counseling authorities will prepare the state rank list.

The state rank list is used for seat allotment in private medical colleges of their respective states.

The state merit list is based on the All India rank of NEET-UG.

You must apply separately for the state quota counseling on the basis of NEET rank.

You must have a good NEET rank to get an MBBS seat in private colleges at a low budget package.

But still, the competition is lower compared to government medical colleges because:

(A) Many states only allow state domicile students to apply for private seats.

(B) Students from other states participating in state counselling are less.

(C) Beneficial for students for admission in their own state private medical colleges.

(D) The MBBS course fee is approximately 10 times higher than in government medical colleges.

MBBS Admission in Government Colleges

Government Medical Colleges, Central Universities, AIIMS, ESIC, AFMC are public-funded educational institutions.

Due to the reservation policy, more than 50% of the seats in government colleges are for SC/ST & OBC category students.

Tuition fee in government medical colleges is lesser compared to private colleges.

Only top NEET rank holders can get a seat in Government Medical Colleges of India.

The number of MBBS seats is less than 1/10 of the total number of medical aspirants in India.

It is nearly impossible for students with a low score in the NEET exam to get a seat in government medical colleges.

Private medical colleges or study abroad is the only option available for MBBS Admission.

Dental, Ayush & Allied Health Sciences is the most preferred choice among most medical aspirants with a low score in the NEET exam.
